Perla became world's second cruise liner (after Prima) fitted with dual-fuel engines, producing energy from LNG (liquefied natural gas) while the vessel is docked in port. The LNG fuel is supplied by truck (Royal Dutch Shell being AIDA's exclusive LNG provider). Ship's diesel engines are shut off in port, resulting in approx 80% reduction of NOX emissions and about 20% of CO2. This Sphinx-class cruise ship weighs 69,203 gross tons and has a guest capacity of 2,050; its sailings can be booked from August 3, 2022. AIDAperla is one of the world's most technologically advanced cruise vessels. The ship's first drydock refurbishment was in 2022 (April-May) done at Lloyd Werft's shipyard in Bremerhaven Germany. The vessel was floated out on May 4, 2015, and delivered on March 14, 2016. Perla was delivered on April 27 and christened in Palma de Mallorca on June 30 (during the 7-day Inaugural cruise June 24 – July 1) from Barcelona. Cabins onboard are mostly standard insides and outsides; while of average size, the bright and cheerful furnishings make them more attractive than most mass-market cabins. There are only a few balcony cabins and suites; most passengers on this ship will be more interested in having fun in the public rooms than spending time hiding away in their private quarters. The christening ceremony was scheduled for March 2015 and the inaugural cruise first for October, then for December 2015. Finally, the 86-day long World Cruise (inaugural itinerary from Hamburg) was re-scheduled for April 30, 2016.

The 3400-passenger ship AIDAprima is AIDA's ever largest ship and is operated under the Costa Crociere division of the Carnival group. Another fun spot is the Nightfly nightclub, which hosts some entertainment -- and this comes with a small cover charge. Shows, which are open to adults only, have lots of options, with themes like "Paris, My Love" and "Close to You." The Beach Club, an indoor/outdoor pool space, hosts late-night parties with DJs and live bands. A favorite spot onboard is the Brauhaus, which serves food in the evening, then turns into an entertainment hotspot at night.
